I'm a long time software engineer and sometimes manager, mostly at Silicon Valley startups, although my engineering career started at HP Labs, where I worked on design automation software for integrated circuits. Two of the companies were spinoffs of SRI. Another morphed into Macromedia after a couple mergers.

I was previously a member of the University of California, Santa Cruz mathematics faculty for three years. My research was part of the enormous classification of finite simple groups

Over the years, my primary programming language has evolved from C to C# via C++ and Java. Silverlight recently displaced WPF as my presentation layer.
